Awe you’re using one of the little DCW pumps too. Cute little things that really pack a punch. Could not be more satisfied with this thing.

Yes, the thought of turtle water on anything makes me cringe. Totally get it.
I’m sold on the jebao pumps already. 900 GPH for $61. Yes please. And like you said it’s little and cute

Or 76 days, but I think I’ve finally tamed ONE stem of Ammania senegalensis.

Don’t let it see you otherwise it’ll stunt shrivel up and die.

Whites looking sweet!

Dont sweat that ammania. Its not even a mystery, the whole genus has the specific need of a rich sub and very lean water column, esp macros

That one of yours would be a fat weed in those conditions. Stem like a sharpie and flat leaves 3/4" wide. Yours wasnt a happy specimen even before it began to stunt. The leaves arent supposed to be so narrow and curled up like that

Still, you might be able to grow it consistantly in its pre-stunt form. Let it go until the top stunts so bad it stops. Then cut it down and leave the stump 3-4". It'll make new side branches and usually those are better adapted to present conditions and do better (works for most stems not just ammania) You probably know that but some readers may not

Either way its not worth wringing your hands over

I’m actually witnessing exactly what you’re describing with the bare cut stems I added to the farm tank in the garage. Didn’t expect it at all but there’s 4-5 stems shooting new perfectly formed growth with absolutely no attention paid to it.

Basically, cut, replant, and neglect is the secret formula.

To your point regarding new growth from adjusted stems. The Ammania Senegalensis from the farm tank in the garage:

Noticed something out of place while making the rounds today. Apparently I have an anubias flowering. Pretty neat. Never had an epiphyte flower on me before.

Also, moved the second week aqua off the display tank to the garage and re-centered the P600. I had to raise it to get enough spread. Not sure how I’ll like it, as there’s definitely sparse lighting on the far ends.

Mines done that before. Funny thing sometimes new side shoots will continue to come in white. Id cut that top off and make sure the stump can get good light

I believe its more likely to happen if the plant's not entirely happy but thats mostly speculation
Yea this one was a transplant from the farm tank in poorest condition that was crowded and shaded. I usually cut off the reverting nodes and it regrows as the variant, but I left this one to see what it did. Interesting to see that it keeps growing out, but continues to grow half ‘white’ and half ‘cuba’ instead of picking one to stick too.

I believe this is R. ‘blood red’. Waiting to see the leaf shape fully develop because there’s some R. ‘magenta’ in here as well.

Ludwigia arcuata peeking out. This will probably come out because I already have a ton of it in the pond.

Some Limnophila hippuridoides. These have an overwhelmingly distinct aroma.

And I’ve finally found some solid correlation from my long-term red root floater experiment, conducted under multiple super-high-precision laboratory controlled conditions (not). think we have a clear winner.
