Ok so it was all the equipment, as written it seemed to imply just the heater for a 29gal, but for everything that tracks,
Oh no it was over a kwhr for just the heater…. 240 watt hours for the canister filter, 10 watts 24 hours, 96 watt hours for the air pump, 480 watts daily for Week Aqua 60 cm L series 8 hours a day..

I was running 1.86 kwhr in 24 hrs all up.

By installing a twinwall polycarbonate lid under the canopy and turning set temp down to 72 the 24 hour consumption dropped to pretty close to just over a kwhr a day…

While it us better, a silly little 29 gallon tank is consuming nearly as much electricity per day as a 20 cubic foot fridge…. About $9 bucks a month in Maine…

Wow and your house is at 70 degrees when you did this test? Very good reminder how much our experiences can vary. This month I removed my heaters in my tanks, our house stays between 70-72 and the tanks with equipment run at 73-74. In Maine even with heat you probably see more swings.

The bedroom might swing between 68-70. Thermostat is in the kitchen. This was tested back in February with outside temps in the 30s during the day and teens at night.

Currentlyin mid april days are in upper 50s to lower 60s during day and upper 30s at night. Thermostat in kitchen same setting, but the sun is a lot stronger and bedroom has southern exposure. Bedroom sticks closer to 71 now and I routinely see tanks hovering at 73-74 despite set temp being 72. I think the only time the heaters kick on now is after a water change at most..

The whole playing around with Kill AWatt meter was eye opening..72 in the winter is fine for the fish I keep. Well within their listed range. I will easily be in mid to upper 70s in the summer..

I was pretty amazed how much I saved by turning tank temp down 4 degrees and fitting twinwall poycarbonate lids.

All up on 6 tanks I am saving almost 5 kwhrs per month. At 0.30 per kwhr between cost of electricity and delivery, thats almost $45.00 a month during the winter months…

Here in Maine it is sort of Winter temps from November through March…
